Peter Svidler Biography
Peter Svidler is a former Chess960 world champion. Sicilian, Ruy Lopez, French defence, Grunfeld, Ruy Lopez closed, King’s Indian, Caro-Kann etc are some of his favourite openings. Svilder’s best Elo rating is 2765.He started learning chess at the age of six from his father.
Svilder shared the first spot at the 1992 USSR junior open chess championship. Svidler reached the level of Grand master, in 1994 at the age of 18.Svidler won gold medal at Chess Olympiads in 1994,1996,1998,2000 and 2002.He won his first Russian championship in 1994.He went on to win Russian championship again in 1995,1997,2003 aswell as 2008.In 1997, Svidler finished joint first at the Tiluburg tournament. In 1998, he finished joint runner-up at Dortmund.
At the 2001 FIDE world chess championship, he reached the semi-final. In 2005,Svidler was the joint runner up at the San Luis FIDE World chess championship. Svidler is one of the best Chess960 players. He won the inaugural Mainz Chess 960 open. In 2003 , Svidler became the Chess960 world champion after defeating Peter Leko. He retained his championship in 2004 aswell as 2005.In However, in 2006 ,he lost his Chess960 title to Aronian. In 2004,he won silver medal at the chess Olympiad for Russia. He ended up as the top scorer for Russia in that chess Olympiad with an amazing 2822 performance rating.
In 2006,Svidler achieved fifth place at the prestigious Corus chess tournament. He finished fifth at the Linares chess tournament, later that year. In 2006, Svidler finished runner up for the second time at Dortmund tournament. He ended up as the runner up at 2006 World Blitz chess championship. In 2007,he finished fifth at the Mexico City FIDE World championship. Svidler won the Bunratty Masters in 2008 and he retained that title successfully in 2009.Svidler is a solid player. He is a dangerous player when is playing with white. Svidler is more of a family man who likes to spend much of his spare time from chess with his family.
